A Lithuanian robotics startup is planning to introduce MIO Mobile Kiosk, a self driving mobile vending robot, Delfi.lt reports.
The MIO Mobile Kiosk team consists of Roman Drokov, Mangirdas Skripka, and their representative Emile Gozelskyte had a quick word with Delfi.lt about their solution. Initially, the company was working on the Sidewalk Delivery robot.
"However, after thorough calculations, our mentors from Israel suggested we should change the whole idea, as major players such as Amazon and Starship with unlimited financial possibilities were too tough as competitors. In Finland, our Sidewalk Delivery robot was noticed by Coca Cola and offered money for having the robot for a few days. This is how we came up with an idea to create a mobile vending machine we called MIO," E. Gozelskyte said.
The startup isn't currently selling their robots, but they offer services that the robot provides.
" (…) we're developing relationships with major companies such as Coca-Cola, Pepsico and Mondelez," said E. Gozelskyte.
MIO Mobile Kiosk could sell items that are considered impulsive purchases such as chewing gum, water, chocolate and refreshments. But it could also sell sun creams or plastic coats, depending on weather and location.
MIO is said to be live-demoed in London.
