The staple hackathon series in Lithuania is starting the year with some new arrangements. Hacker Games, scheduled for 2-4th March in Kaunas, is introducing a brand new track.
In partnership with Society of Innovative Medicine, we are adding Health as the fourth track in addition to our well-established Software, Hardware, and Game tracks. Together with Kaunas University of Technology and Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, we encourage students from engineering and medical fields of study to participate in the upcoming Hacker Games in order to create common solutions for health-technologies.
“Interdisciplinary experience and knowledge enable the teams to see problems from different perspectives. Our intent is for the teams to create innovations in software and hardware in Health track during the Hacker Games event'”, states Tomas Proscevičius, one of the organizers and a spokesman for KTU Startup Space. “During the last hackathon, one team designed an interesting medical device called “PokemonBall” which monitors a person’s average levels of blood glucose. This year we are expecting to attract more participants interested in health tech to compete in Hacker Games.”
There are a couple of Lithuanian healthcare projects that are already leading their way to the worldwide market, like Droplet genomics, OxipitAI, ASound and others. But Antanas Kiziela, a spokesman for Society of Innovative Medicine, states that “it is important to encourage health care innovations and startups in Lithuania since our region lacks activity in terms of innovative first-phase health-care businesses compared to other similar countries”.
“With Our project IMDrone which is a part of Hacker Games event, where we collaborate with KTU Startup Space and Startup Lithuania, we expect to stimulate participants to create great ideas, maybe start few startups or at least pull some more attention to this sector”, continues Kiziela.
The winning team in Health track will be awarded the opportunity to present their ideas in a two-day-long Life Sciences Baltics 2018 event. This is the only international forum in the Baltics for world-class biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical devices, attracting experts from all around the world. It provides a unique opportunity to explore the new horizons of partnerships, exchanges ideas and seeks progress through networking.
A quick reminder: Hacker Games are always free of charge. The upcoming event will take place on 2-4 March in KTU Santaka Valley where all software developers, engineers, designers, hackers and everybody interested in creating something new are welcome to join. The event will start on Friday, 2 March, at 6 pm. Idea pitching and team formation will take place on Friday, followed by building projects for the rest of weekend.
